Wavensmere Homes Crowned a Double Winner at the 2024 Insider Midlands Residential Awards

Wavensmere Homes was crowned Housebuilder of the Year and also scooped the Deal of the Year prize at the 2024 Insider Midlands Residential Awards.

The prestigious regional industry event was held at Birmingham’s Eastside Rooms and attended by over 500 members of the residential property and professional services community. Compered by Scottish comedian Fred McAulay, the annual celebration of excellence saw a total of 16 awards presented to company teams, partnerships, and individuals.

Wavensmere Homes was crowned Housebuilder of the Year in recognition for the £175m Nightingale Quarter development in Derby city centre, the £106m Belgrave Village scheme in central Birmingham, and its £1 billion pipeline of houses and apartments which are either in planning or production.

In December 2023, City of Wolverhampton Council announced Wavensmere Homes as the new preferred developer for the £150m Canalside South scheme – one of the largest city centre residential development opportunities in the Midlands.​ The Council has since exchanged contracts with Wavensmere Homes to build more than 500 new homes (subject to planning approval) on the 17.5-acre site – a former industrial site benefiting from frontage onto the Wyrley & Essington Canal and the Wolverhampton Branch of the Birmingham Main Line Canal.

The Edgbaston-headquartered housebuilding firm and its associated special purpose vehicles (SPVs) completed 522 houses and apartments during 2023, achieving a turnover of £100m for its financial year. The team is on track to deliver another 500 homes during 2024, which will result in a turnover of £115m.

Our track record and financial strength is why we have been able to announce four major new projects over the past 12 months, which between them will deliver over 1,300 houses, apartments and 150,000 sq ft of commercial space over the coming years. Meanwhile, the remainder of the 500 homes being handed over during 2024 are underway across our live sites.

Located off London Road, the 18.5-acre Nightingale Quarter is one of the UK’s most significant city centre regeneration projects. The development is creating a new community of 925 homes, comprising a range of one- and two-bedroom apartments and two- and three-bedroom houses. 95% of the homes have been matched with buyers in just four years, with the final phases currently under construction. The landmark project includes the restoration of buildings and monuments from the 130-year-old former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary, which stood redundant for a decade after it closed in 2009.

Over half of the 438 houses and apartments being delivered at Belgrave Village in central Birmingham are being completed this year. The £106m 12-acre regeneration scheme is being delivered by Wavensmere Homes in partnership with Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital. Accessed off Belgrave Middleway (A4540), just outside the city’s Ultra Low Emission Zone, 70% of the homes have already been matched with purchasers at the off-plan stage. The popularity of the scheme is being attributed to the attainable prices – which start from £208,000 – eco technology including air source heat pumps, and design features such as three-metre-high ceilings within each floor of the houses.
